To ensure our commitment to excellence we need YOU, the patient to ask the following questions when evaluating us or any medspa for your treatment.
Safety Risks for me as a Patient?
- Infections: Unsanitary conditions, reused or improperly sterilized tools (needles, dermarollers, etc.), and lack of proper hygiene protocols lead to bacterial, fungal, and viral infections (including serious ones like MRSA or even HIV/Hepatitis).
- Burns and Scarring: Improper use of lasers, chemical peels, or other energy-based devices by untrained individuals can cause severe burns, permanent scarring, and pigmentary changes.
- Nerve Damage: Incorrect injection techniques, especially with fillers or Botox, can lead to nerve damage, causing paralysis, numbness, or facial asymmetry.
- Tissue Necrosis: Filler injected into a blood vessel can block blood flow, leading to tissue death (necrosis) which requires immediate medical intervention to prevent disfigurement.
- Blindness: A rare, but devastating complication of improper filler injections near the eyes.
- Allergic Reactions/Anaphylaxis: Lack of proper product knowledge or patch testing can result in severe allergic reactions, sometimes life-threatening.
- Exacerbation of Existing Conditions: Untrained practitioners may not recognize underlying medical conditions or contraindications, worsening pre-existing health issues.
Are the products being used in my care Substandard or authentic Products?
- Unapproved/Illegal Substances: Non-medical practitioners often source cheap, unregulated, or counterfeit products (e.g., industrial-grade silicone, unapproved fillers, fake Botox) that are dangerous and can cause severe complications.
- Improper Storage/Handling: Products may be stored incorrectly, leading to degradation, contamination, or reduced efficacy.
In the case of emergency is the Med Spa prepared to handle my needs?
- Inability to Manage Complications: Non-medical staff lack the training, knowledge, and necessary medications (e.g., hyaluronidase for filler complications) to handle adverse reactions or medical emergencies.
- No Medical Oversight: Many non-medical spas operate without direct supervision from a licensed physician, leaving clients vulnerable if something goes wrong.
What is my Med Spa team’s level of experience history of patient care? What to avoid?
- Suboptimal Aesthetic Results: Untrained individuals often produce uneven, unnatural, or simply ineffective results, leading to client disappointment and the need for costly corrective procedures.
- Misleading Advertising: Unregulated spas may make false promises, overstate results, and downplay risks, setting unrealistic expectations for clients.
-
Is my Med Spa service delivered by a team led by a Licensed MD? Is my doctor insured for malpractice?
- Unlicensed Practice: Many aesthetic procedures fall under the scope of medical practice, and performing them without a medical license is illegal and carries significant legal repercussions for both the practitioner and potentially the client.
- Lack of Malpractice Insurance: Non-medical practitioners often cannot obtain proper malpractice insurance, leaving clients with no recourse for compensation in case of injury.
- Difficulty in Reporting/Tracking Injuries: The lack of standardized reporting systems for adverse events in unregulated spas makes it difficult to track the true scope of the problem and hold responsible parties accountable.
